017: Carrie Madormo on the Healthy Work at Home Mom

Career transitions can seem like a daunting challenge for the uninitiated. It’s easier to stay in the comfort zone of the familiarity than to make that decision to change what’s not working. A desire for more family time led Carrie Madormo to look at alternative career alternatives. Google was her friend and she came across the perfect fit!

Using what she knew about health as a registered nurse, she transitioned to medical writing so she could have the option to work from home.

In this episode, you’ll learn about the steps she had to take to make the transition, the mindset she had to embrace, and how she was able to succeed. Hopefully this will inspire you to take first steps in any area of your life that you want to see positive changes for yourself.

Who is Carrie?

Carrie Madormo is a freelance health writer, nurse, and founder of The Healthy Work at Home Mom, where she inspires and teaches fellow mamas how to ditch their 9-5’s and live their passions.  Carrie lives in Milwaukee, WI with her husband Tim and two babes (Charlotte and Jack).

Quotes from Carrie

This is possible — and you don’t have to accept where you’re at. Or think ‘I was a nursing major in college, so that’s all that I can ever do.’ I was just writing an article about Joanna Gaines on HGTV … your college major, your first job do not determine the rest of your life and I tell this to my 4-year old daughter now when we she talks about ‘what do you want to be when you grow up.’ They tell her, ‘You could always change it if you don’t love it.’ It’s possible to make a change no matter what point you’re at. I love the Four Hour Work Week and that made a big impression on me when I was working as a nurse and thinking about my future. I think the biggest takeaway from that book was so many of us put off all these things we want to do until we’re rich, or until we’ve ‘made it,’ when in reality it maybe doesn’t cost as much as you’d think and you could start doing those things now. And for me that was travel and since we had these two little kids I thought that was not going to happen but if you’re brave enough to say ‘this is what you want,’ and look into it you can make it possible.
