A Zen Space: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater

If you were to look at my Instagram feed, you’ll notice my latest IG posts are Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and its surrounding foliage. It’s safe to say that if my husband and I were told by a genie in a bottle that we could have any house in the world (regardless of price or how realistic it is) Fallingwater would probably be it. Just the organic architecture, cantilevered structure, and seamless integration of indoor and outdoor elements makes this a truly calm, harmonious space.

The waterfall over which the house is built acts as a natural focal point and the sound could be heard throughout the house, bringing the outdoors inside. There would certainly be no need for a nature sound app here!

My own house can feel cluttered with the messes of everyday life, such as junk mail and kid toys. To be in a space that brings about the same, calm feeling I get after yoga class is pretty amazing. While I’m sure HGTV has covered dream vacation homes similar to this style,

I would prefer a pared down version and would LOVE to see a Tiny House in the Frank Lloyd Wright style that could be driven to a site NEAR waterfalls. That would be kind of neat.

They don’t allow you to take pictures inside the house, I ended up getting a short guidebook that had the interior photographs. I could see how one could not only entertain and vacation in the home, but also have a chance to get creative with music, writing, photography or whatever.

Have you ever noticed yourself more productive in some spaces more than others? For some, it could be a step out into nature, others it could be a busy coffee shop or office cubicle where you can eavesdrop on multiple conversations at the same time. I always find travel, whether locally or around the globe, to inspire the best work, one where you’re outside your comfort zone and everyday routine. It’s the element of changing things up in order to learn and grow. It’s a chance to say to hell with the “to do” list, whether for a couple hours or a whole weekend, and just be in the moment. That’s what I found this space does.

With the end of the year, I’m rethinking my vision board and adding Fallingwater to it, not just because I love the property but as a reminder to create a sort of zen space in life, or find these pockets of spaces to be able to create, and just “be.” While new year resolutions can be a great motivator, it’s not always about getting things done, but how you feel in the process and who you become as a person, as your best possible self in the calm, inspiring space you create for yourself.

Do you have a vision or Pinterest board? Fallingwater and Tiny Houses by the waterfall will probably be on my vision board. What will be on yours?
